Totally unresponsive

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I reached out to Career Excuse after having an unusually large gap in my resume due to a horrible situation beyond my control. My e-mail tracking shows that they opened my message 3 times, yet they never replied. So I'm thinking, if they can't be bothered to answer when I'm throwing money at them, how can I trust that they'd reply to someone inquiring about my reference after they've been paid? Thanks for nothing.

I was a Career Excuse client for 3 years. I have been self employed, but wanted a job reference setup so if I ever got a chance at at job with benefits I could take it. I got a job interview, so I paid $200 for an upgrade. Then the provider website and provider emails went down, and I started getting double billed. It was unbelievable. Amey promised to fix everything but never did. Do I have to beg to get the services I pay for each month ? It's a scam. now. now. scam now. Left

It WORKS!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

TLDR: These guys are legit and the service works. They're good people.

My story: The company I worked for went out of business last year and I had no professional references.

I'm a very capable and dedicated employee and lack of references shouldn't make me forever unemployable. After job hunting for quite some time, having no references wasn't working so I had no choice but to try to outsource my references. I looked at a couple different companies but Career Excuse seemed like the best one. I purchased the White Collar package.

I was down to my last couple hundred dollars, but had a strong potential job on the horizon. I was REALLY nervous about handing over the last of my cash to them wondering if it was a scam or not but I am SO glad I did! I set up my account and my references were ready really quickly. Before giving the references to my new potential employer, I called them myself from a different phone number (so they wouldn't know it was me) pretending to be an employer checking my references to see how they did.

I was actually taken aback by how real and professional they sounded. I threw some curve balls too and they handled them so well!

Anyway, I gave my potential new employer the references they created, and IT ACTUALLY WORKED! The employer believed it and I got the job! I had serious doubts, but Jennifer and William came through.

It took one of the references a while to respond but Jennifer handled it for me when I let her know. She responds really quickly by phone and text which is a huge plus.

I would not have gotten this job if it weren't for Career Excuse. They really care about their customers and want to do right by them.

They take their job seriously and I will recommend these guys to everyone who needs them. Hopefully I won't need faux references in the future, but if I do, I will without a doubt use them again.

Thanks William and Jennifer, (and the rest of the team too!) I appreciate all that you do.

User's recommendation: If you don't have positive references, use these guys. You'll be glad you did. I would bet dollars to donuts that the reviews claiming it's a scam are all written by the same person, most likely, their competitor. Don't believe it, it's pure BS.

So? Are you saying that this is the reason that BBB is worthless because actual customers have good experiences with them and BBB doesn't reflect reality?

Do you know what the BBB even is?

The fact that you think it's relevant shows that you haven't got a clue. Please state your point instead of just making random statements that don't mean anything because that's not helpful to people.

Elias, I wouldn't be taking that grandiose stand with someone when it is YOU that apparently needed fake job references!!! LMAO! I would venture to say if YOU had a clue, you wouldn't need to hire this sort of company in the first place because you would have valid and real references already!

If YOU are reading this review... let my past experience influence YOUR decision and consider it YOUR sign on what NOT to do.

THIS [FAKE] service is a SCAM. SCAM. SCAM. Don't waste your time, effort(s), nor your hard earned money on considering it.

JENNIFER HATTON, AMEY, WILLIAM, BILLY BOB or WHOEVER will just kindly and effectually sell their services and the MOMENT your funds are received........CRICKETS. Not even subtle about it. lol Against my intuition and better judgement i tried it, and was burned. ($220) That said: I will do everything within my scope of ability, connections, and acumen to EXPOSE this fraudulent service and any other BOTS &; sites that are connected to them.

Please reference the text below. It is a snapshot of my convo with Jennifer (scammer) Notice the fluidity of our conversation then 5 min after payment she never responds again.

It looks like you used their service in 6th Jan did they provide references the first time but not the second time in July

Carey B Cby
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1916455

NO- ONLY a profile was created in Jan. And because my need at the time was not time sensitive nor a high priority, I eventually went in a different direction.

However, I had hoped that my experience would be successful in July ONLY to have those hopes & expectations evaporate fairly quickly.

Moral of the story- DON’T be so desperate for a service that you disregard wisdom and common sense! Learn from my mistake(s)

Resolved: Great Work; Amazing Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Jul 08, 2020

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with product or service ordered. Company delivered as agreed.

Original review Jul 08, 2020
I had been working as a consultant for the last 4 years. Most of the roles had been with private equity firms, which often prefer to keep the relationship with their portfolio companies discreet.

I signed several confidentiality and nondisclosure agreements. Those agreements seemed innocuous at the time. However, when I sought to re-enter the corporate world, I quickly learned that the nondisclosure agreements also meant that I couldn't use those co-workers as references. In fact, some of the companies might pursue legal action if I disclosed that I had worked for them.

A reference check is the final hurdle for most professional roles. Without references, there is no chance of getting hired. So, I was left in a precarious position.
That is where CareerExcuse came in. CareerExcuse created those missing references.

My account rep, Jennifer Shanahan, carefully listened to my situation and made some suggestions. Then they got to work and the results are impressive. They created supervisors, companies (complete with a local address and phone number), and e-mail addresses. I still had to get through the interview rounds, but CareerExcuse meant that I wouldnt lose the job when HR did the final verification.

I stayed compliant with the nondisclosure contracts, but wasnt locked out of a new career.
I believe that reference checks are a relic of the past. Your next job shouldnt be dictated by whether you made friends in your last job. Each persons career accomplishments should stand on their own merit. However, reference checks are still a part of the hiring process.

CareerExcuse is a brilliant way to level the playing field for everyone. There is a long list of people who could benefit: Parents returning to work, professionals with a gap in their resume, people who have been out due to illness, or anyone who had a really bad boss in their last position.

Jennifer Shanahan or Jennifer Hatton was in constant communication. I paid $360.00 which I might add, is very expensive, compared to the other companies that have similar services. Ms. Shanahan or Hatton continued to make promises about delivery of services and would NEVER follow through, until with the last and about 6th or 7th promise to deliver, she completely vanished!! She is a THIEF, She has NO CONSCIOUS, She has NO MORALS, She is a CON ARTIST, She is a COMPLETE SCAMMER!!!

I wish I had read the reviews before I paid them. They provided no service and kept my money. I would able to contact the Ohio Consumer Protection Agency and found out a law firm is putting a class action against the company. They will be posting a website with information on how to participate in the class-action. I will post the website as soon as it is up.

Once they got my money they disappeared. Just like everyone else on here. The good reviews on here are all fake. I'll be disputing payment through my bank so at least I'm not out the money. Excellent service! They helped me get into a NYC apt!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I nearly make the income required to rent an apartment I wanted in NYC but not quite enough. Paying for a Guarantor is a terrible deal. I worked with Amey @ CE and she came through big time! She had created my profile, references, company website, recommendation letter on official letterhead and corporate voicemail all within 24 hours. This all happens BEFORE you pay. I asked her to make some changes and she did, again, within 24 hours. The only tricky thing is that some of their numbers seem disconnected so all you need to do is contact them via their sales phone number or via the support emails listed in your member portal. This service is awesome because of people like Amey. She was sick at the time and still worked hard to help me out - AND IT WAS A SUCCESS! Thanks CE!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They talked a good game and promised lots of work. They took my credit card number and then charged a bunch of services I did not request. I contacted them and then they claimed they did not have to refund my money. I conducted a search on them and found out the own has a warrent out for his arrest. They do not have an office, however, instead they rent a business address. They took my money and I got nothing in return. They will not answer my emails or phone calls. They are real *** What you'll be paying for and what they provide you with is nothing. They are heartless people who take advange of people that are trying to find work. I've read several of the positive reviews... What I'm seeing is an extreme amount of repeat info almost word for word. Thank you I was all set to do this today, your review saved my already shallow pockets.

I am still waiting on contact or a refund. This is very discouraging because you called my review fake and never contacted me.

Guest

I assure you this is not a fake posting . You do not have access to your PayPal on your system.

You may PM me and I will provide my contact number is you wish to resolve and then I will take down the review.

The last time I called you hung up on me. This a fake review so it is a comp out for you to say that.

This review is a scam and in previous reviews, the same person told you to click on a link to see the warrant info and sure enough, he was making money off of every click. Warrant information is public knowledge anyone can look into it and see he does not nor has ever had one for him.

Also, Careerexcuse does not take your credit card info YOU MUST enter it into a system just like Paypal and they have no way of accessing it or charging you for anything unless you click proceed from your OWN computer. I am glad I looked into this and I would hope people that have nothing better to do than try and harm a company that tries to help will not be persuaded by this nonsense.

Save your money. William Schmidt and company are a bunch of clowns and useles

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Career Excuse doesn't do anything they say they'll do, except for take your money from you. They promise you they'll provide you with references, a history at a make-believe company and other things that NEVER materialize.

But after paying them, no one at Career Excuse will respond to your emails, or phone calls or do anything else they claim they will.

A few weeks after the date I was originally given, for the services I paid for, they eventually setup a fake position for me with one of their fictitious companies, where I could've claimed to have worked. But don't EVER expect Career Excuse to actually respond to a real reference check, from an actual, bonafide company that may be offering you a job. Amey Mason, Jennifer Hatton and William Schmidt (the owner of Career Excuse) are a bunch of con-artists, scammers and thieves.

What you'll be paying for and what they provide you with is absolutely nothing. It's very sad that these criminals take advantage of mostly desperate people who are down on their luck and who are willing to do almost anything to try to turn around their job market prospects.

I am not sure why or how people can say they stole your money? I was provided one on one service and all services were activated BEFORE payment.

They gave me 24 hours to test the services and then I paid. I now have the job I was offered due to them RESPONDING to ALL my references. Jennifer was very friendly and provided all and more than promised, William spoke to me one on one many times as well. I am not sure why you had the issue you did but has anyone ever thought that just maybe no one called on your references because you were not the one they selected?

They can not land the job or your interview but they are the reason I have my new career and I am forever grateful. THANK YOU CAREEREXCUSE

Well, I'm very glad you received what you paid for and that your experience with Career Excuse was a positive and successful one. I was certainly hoping mine would have been too, but it was anything but!

In fact, it was pretty awful. It definitely sounds like things have changed between the time you used Career Excuse and now. It's either that, or you just happened to get lucky. For one thing, I had to pay for EVERYTHING , in advance and before they started anything. So I forked them over my money, which was already tight to begin with, due to being unemployed. In doing so, I was told Career Excuse would set up a website and a position for me within a few days.

Instead it took them close to a few weeks.I understand that unexpected things come up and cause delays. But when I called and emailed to question what was going on with my order and the status of things, Jennifer never answered or responded to phone calls or emails. I finally decided to try texting her. Texting "sort of worked" because at least she would occasionally respond (maybe 1 out of 5 times) to tell me that things would be done immediately, or tomorrow, or that she would call me back by the end of the day.

It's not like I was blowing up her phone or leaving her multiple text messages either. I'm talking about two or three texts in a day. However, she never made good on anything she said or promised, and I wouldn't hear from her again! What a horrible way to treat a paying customer! If a company isn't going to do what it says it is supposed to do, or there are snags in the process, you don't ignore people's emails and phone calls and avoid them.

Which is exactly what they did.Instead, a company should either offer to refund a customer their money, offer them a discount, etc. A company should also call back or respond to a customer's emails or phone calls, and try to resolve whatever the issues are. Career Excuse didn'tdo any of this. Instead they just dodged and avoided me after I paid.Eventually I was provided with what I paid for as far as a reference and as far as a position and a website Etc.

But it was a very screwed-up process that didn't have to go down the way it did. Finally, I'm not talking about the fact that I wasn't successful in getting a job. I never put that responsibility on Career Excuse. Landing an interview and obtaining a job offer, is my responsibility alone. But since Career Excuse is in the habit of not responding to their own paying customer's emails or phone calls, I'm very hesitant to believe that they would respond to a prospective employer's inquiries.

Maybe they do... but based on the way they treat their customers, the odds don't look so good.
